The Schuhplattler Vergnuegungs Verein Original Enzian was founded in 1922. It's members are dedicated to preserving Bavarian culture and customs. The principal activity of the club is to teach and perform the Schuhplattler folk dance. There are adult and children's groups in the club. The Original Enzian is a member of the Vereinigte Bayern von Gross New York (United Bavarians of Greater New York) and the Gauverband Nordamerika. 

Membership meetings are held the first Thursday of every month, except July and August.

The Original Enzian meets at Plattduetsche Park, located  at 1132 Hempstead Tpke., Franklin Square, NY 11010.

The Original Enzian's main performances are:

• The Bavarian Heritage Festival. This is a two day event held the second weekend of June. There is an Oktoberfest-like atmosphere with music, dancing, bell ringing and vendors. This is an outdoor event with indoor facilities available in case of inclement weather.
• The Original Enzian's Bauernball. This is an annual dance held the evening of the first Saturday in November. The Original Enzian is joined by other Schuhplattler clubs from the New York metropolitan area in performing Bavarian folk dances.

These two affairs are also held at Plattduetsche Park. All are invited to attend these affairs. Both the Children and Adult groups perform at these events.

The Original Enzian appears at many other events throughout the year. Some are private affairs, such as weddings. Others are open to the general public. The Original Enzian have also appeared on WABC- TV.
